Lancome Genifique Yeux Light Pearl

I’m borderline obsessed with my skin. Especially the skin around my eyes. I say frequently that I’d throw every spare cent I have at aging, to make it go away. Except I lied. Sometimes, I spend money I don’t really have as well ;).

So, Lancôme Genifique Yeux Light Pearl is a relatively new arrival on the market. A couple of years I believe. I got the product completely by accident. I’d asked someone to buy me the regular eye cream from Lancôme Genifique (which I’ve used previously and will review later) and she got me this in error. Instead of returning it, I decided to keep it because it sounded interesting.

What it is, is a serum as opposed to a cream or a gel. I won’t go into the long-winded benefits of one over another. The key thing you’ll probably already know is that serums are being touted since they come in an easily absorbed form, putting concentrated ingredients into your skin. And in many cases, unless you have super dry skin or its really dry weather, you can get away with using only serum as opposed to serum under moisturizer. This one is no different. In fact, I haven’t seen info anywhere to suggest that you need anything on top of it.

So here’s the low down. It’s AWESOME. I’ve been using it for a few months now. It’s a fairly runny liquid as you’ll see if you pour some out onto your palm (don’t though; its expensive and as with most eye product, comes in a small quantity – 20ml). Its packaged in a small bottle with an applicator that’s a metal teardrop shape attached to a wand. The drop moves around allowing you to vary pressure.

There’s a bit of fiddly process to putting it on. You take the wand/drop covered in serum and massage it on putting a little pressure around the eye socket bones. It comes with instructions on the enclosed leaflet. And here is a video from Lancôme (an Asian one because it was one of the better demos I found – ignore the poor edit). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMbEbnGK-ks Any excess on your skin needs to be just patted in – typically gently, with your ring finger.

In the first couple of days after I started using it, I saw a difference. Nothing dramatic, just a little brighter and more awake looking. It’s a serious depuffer! There are a lot of metal roll-ons and gizmos out there for the under eye area but maybe it’s the ingredients combined with it that helps? I don’t know. What I do know is that after about a month of use (not necessarily always twice a day and not always with the entire massage do-dat either) I found that the bags under my eyes were way reduced. Some difference to the dark circles after the instant brightening, not a lot, but then I have serious smudges under my eyes! And a noticeable difference in the lines. I have 2 deep lines below the inner corner, because of my larger eyes and they actually appear less pronounced which is impressive!

Overall this is a little gem! I’m quite a fan of Lancôme on the whole and have had more hits than misses with the brand but this was one of the few that had me see almost instant results.

Price wise, its $87 in Canada. Almost 20 bucks cheaper if you’re making a trip to the US or are passing through a duty free somewhere cheaper. But the bottle I’ve been using for about 3-4 months now looks set to go for another 3. I’d say 6-7 months with full usage. Which when you break it down is not so bad.

My verdict: give it a go if you feel like a splurge. And if you your eye area is puffy/has lines, put it on twice a day in the way they tell you to, you’ll should see a major difference. I wouldn’t spend the cash if I was under 30 though they say it’s for all ages!
